BIOGRAPHY
Chris Arthurs is a singer, songwriter, conductor and composer, who has been the Oakville Wind Orchestra’s music director since 2000.
A graduate of the University of Western Ontario and the University of Toronto, Chris brings a lifetime of musical excellence, exceptional craftmanship and dedication to precision to his role at the helm of the Orchestra.
Chris traces his musical awakening back to the long family road trips of his childhood, during which he and his siblings taught themselves three-part vocal harmonies. While the power of song has gripped him ever since, it was his love for the bassoon that sparked a career in music – one that has shown no signs of slowing down anytime soon.
Over the course of his illustrious career, Chris has held positions with the Band of the Ceremonial Guard, the Peel District School Board and Clarkson Secondary School, and has served on the boards of many teachers’ associations and music festivals.
Due to his infectious humour and contagious stage presence, Chris has become a staple in Oakville’s performing arts community and a perennial audience favourite. Whether he is conducting the Oakville Wind Orchestra against the backdrop of the Bronte Harbour or crowded concert halls, Chris always does so with a smile on his face. Come see the maestro and the Orchestra live in action at one of our upcoming shows!
